An Overview of Remote Work Tools and Technologies
Map of Remote Work Solution Providers
Elaine Zelby, from SignalFire has created a fascinating “map” of the ecosystem of remote work vendors and solution providers – which includes all those businesses creating tools which support, facilitate and transform remote work.
With the speed at which this space is developing of course, there are already new solutions and providers to add, but it’s nonetheless an invaluable overview and a tribute to the innovation and creativity of both the start-ups and incumbent providers helping make remote work, work.
Elaine’s analysis of the sector is really interesting – and I highly recommend you have a read here. She delves into the tools and technologies serving effective remote work across key areas from communication tools to hiring, compliance and payroll tools onboarding, culture, employee learning and development
She also notes that remote-first founders have intentionally and deliberately structured their organizations very differently to traditional start-ups, with an increased emphasis on documentation, culture, employee well-being and flexibility.
Their communication style shifts from synchronous to asynchronous and in-person meetings are replaced with video conferencing, ideation tools, cloud applications and messaging and chat platforms. She also identified 4 secondary impacts of remote work which will require a shift in tools and spending.
